INEC set to ban the use of mobile phones at polling units

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is set to ban the use of mobile phones at polling units during elections ahead of the Osun State Governorship elections slated for 22nd of September this year.

Chairman of the commission Mr Mahmud Yakubu made the declaration when the acting chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ICPC ,Isa Usman paid a courtesy call to his office in Abuja.

Yakubu said the decision was to prevent the menace of vote buying being experienced in previous elections and to ensure a free, fair and credible elections.

He said INEC is ready to work in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes commissions EFCC and ICPC  as well as security agencies to curb the plague of vote buying and to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.

The INEC boss appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the commission and relevant agencies in respect of the declaration.

Earlier the Acting Chairman of ICPC ,Usman said that vote buying has become a major concern to the nation stressing that the Commission will work with INEC to address the challenges.
