The Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo disclosed this during a meeting with Primary School Teachers in Ijebu-North-East, held at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu–Ode.
According to Soyombo, the decision to recruit more teachers became necessary for the overall re-positioning and betterment of the sector, admonishing teachers to work in unity and cooperate with the present administration to enhance teaching and learning.
She encouraged the teachers to promote good reading habits amongst their students through healthy competitions, which she noted would help students’ diction and essay writing.
The Special Adviser informed that Principals and Head Teachers in Public Primary and Secondary Schools have all been paid running costs, encouraging them to use the money judiciously to justify its purpose.
Speaking earlier, the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Titilope Adebanjo, commended the State Government for carrying along stakeholders in the education sector in decision making, calling for sustenance of such interactions, which he noted would foster cordial relationships.
In a related development, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo has advised school administrators to channel more energy and resources to the teaching of Mathematics and English language in schools, saying, failure in these subjects would mean inability of students to gain admissions into higher institutions.
While encouraging teachers to work harder and be more diligent in discharging their duties, she charged them to get their priorities right and show good example by being punctual and well dressed.
Soyombo reiterated government’s commitment to providing conducive environments for teaching and learning, admonishing the students to listen attentively in class and study hard in order to achieve excellence.
