ASBON Names Abiodun Smes Most Supportive Governor

For his contribution to the growth of Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been honoured by the Association of Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), as the Most Supportive Governor of the year 2019.

          Presenting the Award to Governor Abiodun during the third edition of the Nigeria SME National Business Awards 2019, held at the Valley View Auditorium, Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta, the National President, ASBON, Dr. Femi Egbesola, commended the Governor Abiodun-led administration for its various initiatives which had impacted positively on the growth of SMEs in the State.

          Egbesola said the award, organised by ASBON, was in recognition of the laudable contributions of 13 personalities, comprising individuals, organizations and agencies, to the growth of small businesses in the country.

          He noted that the business dialogue held by Governor Abiodun, enabled business owners and the government to interact on how to develop the economy, adding that the establishment of the Enterprise Development Agency and Oko’wo Dapo, a micro-credit scheme, had empowered micro business owners.

          The ASBON National President added that the MSMEs Business Clinic, held across the three Senatorial Districts of the State, broke barrier to access loans, as different intending entrepreneurs started their businesses through single digit interest loans received from financial institutions at the Clinic.

          Responding, Governor Abiodun, represented by his Consultant on Commerce and Industry, Ms. Sola Arobieke, lauded the body for the recognition, assuring that his administration, through the State’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which emerged as ‘SME Most Supportive Ministry of the Year’, as well as other relevant agencies would not relent at creating enabling environment for ease of doing business in the State.

          While delivering a lecture on the theme, ”SME Financing: Challenges and Opportunities”, the Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, represented by the State Manager of the organization, Mr. Bunmi Kole Daudu, advised business owners to start small and look inwards in tackling the challenges of raising funds before seeking for loans from other sources.

          Some other winners included, the Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, Ms Sola Arobieke, who won the SME Most Supportive Public Officer of the year 2019,    among others.
