I Want To Unite Africa With My Music – Swagga Don

A singer, songwriter and producer, Swagga Don, has said he aims to unite Africa with his song, especially his latest album, Mother Africa.

Swagga Don, who is also called Avatar and Spirit of Africa told Sunday Scoop, “With Africans spread all over the world, we need a unifying force to connect us. In the Diaspora, music and culture are strong tools. Wherever we are, we sing the same kinds of music and culturally, we are all the same. Africans can come together through music to bring about love, unity and peace, and that’s what the African spirit is all about. The African spirit is the African avatar and that’s what I represent.”

Speaking on his forthcoming album, Mother Africa, the masked musician said, “The album is a combination of reggae makossa, sukus and other contemporary African sounds. I have a long history in the music business but I left for some time and focused on my other professions. Now, I’m ready to bring music to the forefront. My other professions do not permit me to come into the open and that’s why I always wear a mask. But, who knows? I may unveil my face before long.”

On what inspires him, the singer said, “Inspiration is God-given. If it is not ‘throwaway’ music, it’s inspired. Music is message and musicians are messengers. Our great singers and songwriters have been inspired one way or the other.”

Swagga Don also noted that he decided to release his album at a minute after midnight on January 10, 2020 because that was what his African ancestors ‘cosmically’ told him to do.

Swagga Don, who is also managed by Majek Fashek’s manager, Uzoma ‘Day’ Omenka, stated that he also had a relationship with the artiste fondly called ‘the rainmaker’.
