Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed appreciation to the people of Ogun State for trusting him with their mandate and their tremendous support during his first year administration in the State.
A release signed by Prince Abiodun in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, stated that the celebrations would be low-key in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and the guidelines to combat the dreaded virus, thanking well-wishers for their demonstration of love through phone calls, goodwill messages to celebrate his 60th birthday.
He said the formal commissioning of completed projects across the State to mark his first year in office had been put on hold, noting that on-going activation of completed projects for immediate use and benefits of the people would continue, in addition to inspection of other on-going projects, in strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines.
The Governor stated that a compendium of his administration’s activities in the last one year would be made available and distributed, reminding Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the extant directive that government’s fund must not be expended on any congratulatory advertorial but could publish the achievements of their respective mandates, in line with the guidelines already issued by the One Year Anniversary Committee.
“Rather than advertorial placements and gifts, friends and well-wishers should convert funds meant for such gestures to donations and projects that will benefit the generality of the citizens and residents of the State. Such donations should be made to the designated DA-COVID Account, with Access Bank (A/C No. 1392969878) or DA-COVID Account with Wema Bank (A/C No. 0123099840)”.
According to the statement, the donations would be acknowledged and the proceeds transferred to Ogun State COVID-19 Account, adding that in the alternative, a public school or Primary Healthcare Centre could be adopted for rehabilitation under the State’s “Adopt a Project” initiative.
He said a Desk has been set up at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, as the only location to document and acknowledge all gifts and donations, explaining that the Desk could be reached by telephone number 0812 283 1006.
“I am extremely grateful to God and deeply appreciate the show of love and solidarity. However, these trying times require those of us in positions of responsibility not only to comply with the guidelines in place but to also lead by example. The twin occasions of my first year in office and attaining the Diamond age are significant, no doubt. But more significant is the need to protect public health and safety, particularly of those who have entrusted me with their mandate in the task of Building Our Future Together”, the statement concluded.
