The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has presented a cheque of N72 million to about 349 Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the State, as grants-in-aid to support their self-help projects to commemorate the 2018 World Community Day.

          Presenting the cheques to various CDAs at Oba Odeleye Park, Ori-Omi, Oke-Sokori, Abeokuta, Governor Amosun described Community Development Associations as major stakeholders in the development of the State, maintaining that the grants should be used judiciously for the wellbeing of the people.

          He appreciated the past and present Chairmen of Community Development Committees, for their contribution towards the development of their various communities, noting that the role of Community Development Association in building a better community cannot be overemphasized.

          The Governor said projects being initiated and executed by CDAs, such as; boreholes, schools, filling stations, hospitals among others across the State, would go a long way in uplifting the living standard of the people.

           “The capacity building initiative of the CDAs towards having good community leadership in our communities has helped in maintaining the peaceful atmosphere that is prevalent in our dear State”. Amosun said

          Commending the cooperators for the peaceful and serene atmosphere in the State, which he noted was one of the factors that earned the State the industrial capital status of the nation, he further assured of enabling environment for all the cooperative societies to thrive, enjoining them to eschew violence in the forth coming general elections.

          The wife of the State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunso Amosun, who was honoured with an Award of Excellence in Community Development by state’s CDAs, appreciated the gesture of the association promising not to relent in her support.

          She thanked the CDAs for their support to the present administration, urging them to make adequate use of the grants, which she noted, would in turn impact the State positively.

    Earlier, the State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Gbenga Adenmosun said about 349 CDAs would benefit from the grants-in-aid while subventions would go to all the 220 Area Community Development Committees, saying the celebration was in appreciation of the voluntary and selfless contribution of CDAs to the growth and development of the State.

       Amosun disclosed that the CDAs have benefitted immensely from the present administration in the areas of capacity building, cash gifts, and hectares of lands for Council Secretariat.

      The Chairman, Ogun State Community Development Council, Alhaji Razak Ikupoluyi attested to the policy of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government, saying they are community friendly, promising continuous support of CDAS to the development of the State.

          Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ibafo Area CDC, Mr. Goke Ayemi appreciated the State government and promised to be prudent with the grant for the development of the State.
