452 contingents, made up of athletes and officials have departed Abeokuta for Abuja, to take part in the National Sports Festival, scheduled to begin from Thursday 6th to 12th December, 2018.

Bidding the contingents farewell at the Alake Sports Council complex, Ijeja Abeokuta, the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun said his government was more committed to development of Sport in the State, saying everything has been put in place to ensure all round success at the competition.

 

The Governor who was represented by the Team Ogun Committee Chairman, Mr. Iskeel Aboaba, noted that, since the commencement of the Festival in the country, Ogun State has never missed out at any point in time.

 

Senator Ibikunle Amosun urged the athletes and the coaches to put in   their best, noting that despite the economic downturn in the country, which has affected participation of some states of the federation, the State had ensured its representation at the game.

 

His words, “Let me commend the efforts made by the Team Ogun Committee and if this could continue, our State will be the best sporting State thereby improving our status in sports sector. Despite lack of adequate funds in the in the country, the State was able to make provision for contingents out of limited resources“.

 

Also speaking a Consultant to the State Government on Team Ogun 2018 Committee, Sir, Prince Niyi Olatidoye , appealed to the athletes to be good ambassadors and avoid  any act that could mar the image of the State, commending the State Government for its commitment to the development of sports in the State.

 

Responding on behalf of the athletes, Ogun Camp Commandant, Mr. Omotayo Adelaja, lauded the efforts of Team Ogun 2018 Committee for making adequate preparation for the competition, assuring that they would not disappoint the State.
