‘Nasarawa can win NPFL’

Emmanuel Makama, captain of high-flying Nigeria Professional Football League side, Nasarawa United, says their aim is to win the 2020/21 NPFL title and return to continental football for the first time since 2015.

The Solid Miners, who struggled for form and consistency last season, have made an impressive start to the 2020/21 campaign and are currently the only unbeaten team in the NPFL after six games.

The Lafia-based side have recorded two away wins and a draw, beating Warri Wolves at the Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro on Sunday, which helped them leapfrog Rivers United to go top of the league.

“Last season we weren’t settled but before we resumed, we got support from every corner and we talked about where we wanted to be. Our target this season is to bring the NPFL trophy to Lafia and play on the continent,” Makama told The PUNCH.

“I’m certain that we can attain that feat this season because I believe those that are regular on the continent are not better. We have great players and a very good team and an amazing manager. I think we can shock everyone this season.”
