Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has affirmed that the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration is now yielding desired results as education activities are now going on smoothly and effectively in the State.

OGSERA includes, cancellation of all forms of payments in public primary and secondary schools, Issuance of a Learners Identification Number (LIN) to students in public primary and secondary schools, 70 percent attendance as a prerequisite for examinations, and signing of Undertaking Forms by the parents and guardians, supply of over 12,000 furniture to schools among others.

Prof. Arigbabu stated this during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School Old Boys Association in Ijebu-Ode, pointing out that OGSERA, is a systematic and structural approach towards ensuring infrastructural development, equipping schools technologically, discouraging indiscipline and examination malpractices among learners.

He disclosed that principals have been warned not to allow any ceremonial activities during the weekdays, in order not to disrupt teaching and learning activities in schools. He added that they have also been given discipline guidelines to enable them sanction erring learners based on the provision of the guidelines, adding that parents and guardians are now more cautious with the signing of the undertaking on behalf of their wards.

“If you monitor our activities in schools all-round the State, you will see that the rate of absenteeism and truancy has reduced drastically”, Arigbabu said.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the old students of the school for the ongoing massive rehabilitation around the school compound, especially the ICT Centre presently under construction, saying the involvement of the Old Students’ Association in school development cannot be over-emphasised.

Speaking earlier, the National President of the Association, Prof. Labo Adekoya commended the Education Ministry for different measures put in place to promote qualitative and affordable education, especially with the “Yello Roof Revolution” which has provided conducive learning atmosphere for teachers and learners.
