The Lagos State Football Association has released a statement condemning the violence during the Nigeria Professional Football League game between MFM FC and Enugu Rangers at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Sunday and vowed to punish offenders.
The match-day 24 involving MFM and Rangers ended in a goalless draw but was marred by violence as video footage and pictures showed the match official being manhandled by a fan in Lagos.
While the League Management Company is yet to announce whether any action will be taken against the home side, LSFA has condemned such an act while also apologising to the law-abiding fans.
“The Lagos State Football Association has painstakingly reviewed the widely circulated pictures and videos of the ugly events that took place at the MFM Vs Rangers match played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday, May 1, 2022,” the statement reads.
“The association has also received an initial first-hand report of the ugly scenes, which apart from infringing the regulations of the NPFL, clearly brings football in Lagos State to disrepute.
“These actions of a few people are very unfortunate and are totally condemned by LSFA, as it goes against the spirit of Eko football, which includes an understanding of and commitment to fair play, ethical behaviour, integrity and general goodwill towards opponents and match officials.
“On behalf of the majority of Lagos State football fans who have shown themselves to be law-abiding, we at LSFA profusely apologise.
