Clerical Officers in the Ogun State Universal Education Board, have been called upon, to uphold virtues of dedication and proper attitude, along with being proactive in the day to day discharge of their statutory responsibilities to the state.
The call was made by the chairman of the board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, while declaring open a workshop for clerical officers at the N.U.T hall in Abeokuta the state capital.
Majekodunmi, who maintained that all cadres, including clerical officers were pivotal in the successful implementation of government’s policies and programmes, emphasised that the right attitude of clerical officers to work was key in determining the performance level of the board’s operations, especially as it related to efficiency and effectiveness.
He further affirmed that the programme was one of the series of training, designed to provide necessary skills for the entire workforce towards further development of the Board, urging the officers to ensure smooth workflow in their respective duty post.
In a lecture at the workshop with the theme: “Systemic Office Training and Capacity Building”, Alhaji Adekunle Adegbite, a retired Permanent Secretary with the State Civil Service, informed participants that clerical officers were essential tools in day to day running of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, highlighting schedules of clerical officers to include, opening of files, recording of mails, indexing and filling of all correspondence.
Speaking further, Adegbite , admonished them to be courageous in doing what was morally right, as well as introduce creativity to make tasks interesting.
In another lecture, Alhaji Adebisi Osolase, another retired Permanent Secretary, warned clerical officers to understand the rules guiding the Public Service, which must be followed to the letter, advising them to be proactive and responsive to the dynamics of change, in order to achieve effective service delivery.
He also underscored the need to be accountable and result-oriented, while exhibiting professional attitude to work at individual work-place, stressing that they should be objective, disciplined and loyal to the government.
One of the participants, Miss Adekola Sidikat, appreciated government for the workshop, promising to use the knowledge gained for improved service delivery.
