Ogun Commissioner Charged Southwest States Principals On Need For Effective Trainings

Principals across the Southwest states in Nigeria have been advised to continue to embrace the idea of trainings that would ensure better performance and effective administration as school managers.


The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu gave this word of advice during the courtesy call to his office in Abeokuta by the Southwest states executives of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS).


Arigbabu who referred to the principals as solution providers to the many challenges in the country especially the secondary education sector, encouraged them to continue to portray themselves in a manner acceptable of leaders and schools administrators.


“What you are doing at ANCOPSS is part of the solution, you cannot but train the principals, so that you will be able to hand over the baton when you are leaving to people that are worthy of it”, he said.


The Commissioner posited that the workshop for all principals holding in the state, tagged the ‘2022 Mandatory Continuing Professional Training’, would in no small measure helped the school managers on the best and effective ways of handling the runnings of their schools and to tackle challenges as a 21st century leaders and teachers.


In her submission, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo described ANCOPSS as builders that build leaders, while she encouraged them to continue to develop initiatives that would make them exemplary leaders and good administrators in their respective schools.


In his remarks, the Ondo ANCOPSS President, Mr. Johnbull Mebawondu applauded the state government for the support being given to principals in the state and for the giant strides in the education sector which has been a point of reference for other states to follow.


In her welcome address, the state ANCOPSS highlighted some of the theme of discussion at the workshop to includes; emerging administrative and management innovations and techniques for handling contemporary issues and challenges in secondary education, upsurge in attacks on secondary schools in Nigeria: causes and effects, digital ups killing of schools administrators: an investment in digitalised education and more.
