Finance Ministry, OGIRS Synergise On Seamless Revenue Generation

In furtherance of the desire to continually improve the Ogun State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as well as adopt a more seamless approach on revenue generation, the State Ministry of Finance and the State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), have resolved to engage more stakeholders, to achieve better service delivery.
The Chief Economic Adviser to the State Governor and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo said the move became necessary in view of the immense developmental projects implemented across the State by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration, noting that it was essential to continually work to expand the State’s revenue base to pave the way for more people-oriented projects.
Okubadejo said the government was committed to provide incentives, empower its workforce and create an enabling working environment for the workers, advising them not to rest their oars.
According to him, “there is the need for us to continually explore ways we can expand our revenue base and for us to achieve more. We need to work towards sustaining our virile revenue generation agency, and I want to charge you to continue to evolve, collaborate with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government for better results. You should be transparent and do not give room for manipulation”.
He charged the staffers of OGIRS to engage in robust advocacy on prompt payment of taxes, collaborate with more Commercial Banks, tap into the immense benefits of co-location of business activities to make tax payment less cumbersome, and key into the “Building our Future Together” agenda of government, commending the agency’s management for their contributions to the increasing IGR of the State.
In his remark, the Chairman OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye appreciated the government for its various interventions geared towards enhancing the State’s IGR, saying the last three years had witnessed a steady rise in its revenue drive, due to the support accorded the agency and continuous training of its personnel.
