The late proprietor of Lawson Group of Schools and the Iyalode of Yorubaland; Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson has been described as a passionate and selfless woman, who was also a great advocate of women’s rights.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known during his condolence visit to the family of the late educationist, philanthropist, businesswoman, and women rights advocate in Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun disclosed that the late Iyalode of Yorubaland was a hardworking and blunt woman.
“Your mother was many things to many people, she was a very hard-working and principled woman, she will call a spade a spade, she will say it as it is, whatever she won’t say in front of you, she will not say it behind you.
” She was a very intentional and passionate woman, very selfless, and a big philanthropist.
” Besides being a foremost educationist, she was an advocate for everything that stood for the emancipation of women.
” Anything that spoke for women, anything that gave women a voice, anything that interpret to mean a better representation for the women fold, she was at the vanguard of it,” he said.
Abiodun said the State government will be with the family of the late Iyalode Alaba Lawson during their mourning period, added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon hearing about the demise of Iyalode of Yorubaland has instructed that a condolence message be announced in respect of the late women advocate.
He said the government will set up a committee to interface with the family in order for both of them to begin to plan the final rights to accord the deceased,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the family, one of the children of the deceased; Akinola Lawson, thanked Governor Abiodun for supporting the aspirations of their mother, and acknowledged him for looking out for the welfare of their late mother during her period at the hospital.
