Mathematical Education, Catalyst for Socio-Economic Development – Prof Arigbabu

MATHEMATICAL EDUCATION, CATALYST FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT- PROF. ARIGBABU

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, FMAN has described Mathematical Education as a major catalyst for any Nation that really desire socio-economic growth and transformation.
Prof. Arigbabu who noted this during the 9th Annual Conference and the Presentation of Awards of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun State Chapter, tagged; “Mathematics And Its Application To Nigerian Economic Problem” said the transformative power of Mathematical principles and techniques in addressing complex challenges cannot be overemphasized.
The Commissioner called for collaboration among some important sector of discipline such as mathematicians, economists, policy makers and other stakeholders in harnessing the full potential of Mathematics to effectively address Economic challenges of the Country.
“Let us seize the opportunity of this conference to reaffirm our commitment to harnessing the power of Mathematics for the betterment of Nigeria’s economy,” Arigbabu said.
In his address, the Chairman of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede, represented by Yewa South Zonal Secretary, Mr. Ajasa said Mathematics serves as the bedrock of numerous disciplines, such as Engineering, Finance, Accountancy, Statistics and Information Technology, adding that it offered a structure framework for problem solving and decision making.
Earlier, the State Chairman of MAN, Dr. Temitope Ajayi appreciated the present government in the State for meaningful contributions towards their success stories, noting that the theme was deliberately chosen to generate ideas that could help the government to achieve effective governance and service to humanity.
In their addresses, Alhaji Akande Akinola, FMAN, Prof. Sikiru Amoo and Dr. Caleb Akintade said Mathematics cut across all human endeavours such as medicine, communication, agriculture, accounting, manufacturing, among others, urging government to take a bold step at embracing Mathematics for further advancement.
In another development Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, reiterated the developmental initiatives and other capacity building mechanisms put in place by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to transform the education sector, placing the State at higher pedestal among other state of the country.
Prof. Arigbabu revealed this during a courtesy visit by the Executive members of the Teach For Nigeria Organisation, Teach For All, as well as other International Teaching groups from United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Serbia and Eswatini to understudy the secret behind the outstanding achievements of Ogun State in the Education Sector.
