Information Officers in the Ogun State Civil Service have been called upon to continue to embrace ethical practice, discipline and adhere to stipulated rules and regulations guiding the Public Service, in order not to lose the value of the public entity.
The Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, made the call at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while declaring open a two-day workshop for Information Officers, organised by the Ministry of Information and Strategy with the theme, “Symbiosis of Management and Effective Communication for Efficient Public Service”.
Mr. Fagbohun said a high level of professionalism, communication skills and quality efforts should be evident in the officers’ performance, as they had been entrusted with the responsibility of conveying government activities across the state, noting that it was important to adopt world best practices and acquire managerial skills.
“As Information Officers, you play pivotal role in the success of the Ministry, as you represent its core essence. I, therefore, enjoin you to see this retreat not just as an opportunity for career enhancement but also, as a platform for open dialogue and collaboration through which you can share thoughts, insights and concerns that will further contribute to the envisaged success of the Ministry”, he said.
The HoS assured that the training would bring innovative and creative ideas to aid the progress of the Ministry in ensuring orderliness and effective communication, appreciating Governor Dapo Abiodun for supporting the capacity development of Public Servants in the state, which has made the workforce experienced career enrichment and groomed them for effective service delivery,
He also commended the Ministry for considering it essential to organise the retreat in a bid to instill Public Service ethics and ensure effective collaboration among its staff in the continuous contributions in different dimensions geared towards promoting the “Building Our Future Together” agenda of the present administration.
Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, said the government would operate more efficiently and effectively officers were well equipped, which necessitated the huge investment in human-capital development of the workforce, urging participants to leverage the opportunity of the training to widen their knowledge base, to promote accountability in all operations.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, represented by the Director, Management Services and Training, Mr. Olusegun Akinfaiye, as well as her counterpart from the Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Oladipupo Ogunfowora, appreciated the management team of the Ministry for organising the training, calling on Information Officers to take advantage of the training to learn, relearn and unlearn, while ensuring feedback in the course of discharging their duties as the mouthpiece of government.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Waheed Adesina, said the management staff was determined to make officers better at discharging their statutory duties, adding that training and retraining must be embraced at all times for improved service delivery.
He appreciated the present administration for always approving all trainings, the HoS for sustained and dignified service he was rendering to the Civil Service and other stakeholders for the success of the training, charging participants to utilise the training for effective dissemination of government activities and cascade knowledge gained to their colleagues.
