Towards ensuring effective and quality service delivery in the health sector, Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Rural Development, has installed solar lights at Orile Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), Isara, in Remo North and Ikala community in Ijebu East Local Government Areas.
Speaking during the installation, Commissioner in the Ministry, Mrs. Olufemi Ilori-Oduntan, represented by the Director of Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, said the installation was part of the present administration’s strides to deliver dividends of democracy, towards ameliorating the sufferings of people at the grassroots and improving their living standard.
Mrs. Ilori-Oduntan explained that provision of solar power would ensure regular supply of light without interruption while carrying out essential services at the PHC, as well as boost economic activities among the rural dwellers as the solar light along the streets would also prevent security threats in the community.
She added that the initiative would minimise consumption of petrol, thereby reducing use of power generating sets which release carbon-monoxide into the atmosphere that could pose health hazards to the people.
Speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salam, informed that the Ministry was assiduously working on its mandate to provide infrastructural development in rural areas across the state to curb rural-urban migration, advising the benefitted PHC and community to make judicious use of the installed solar lights.
In her remarks, the Community Health Officer of Orile Healthcare Centre, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sodele, appreciated the state government for the gesture, saying constant power supply would aid their operations and reduce the stress of epileptic electricity supply.
Also speaking, a community leader in Ikala community, Chief Sunday Okudero, said the street lights would enhance the security system of the community.
It would be recalled that over 20 PHCs, cutting across all the Senatorial Districts of the State had so far benefitted from the solar power kits, while over 50 rural communities were enjoying solar street lights.
