Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commissioned Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode Road in Yewa South Local Government Area, with a pledge that reconstruction of 63-Kilometer Ado-Odo-Abeokuta Expressway would soon commence.
Governor Abiodun, who disclosed this at Ilaro, during the commissioning, said the reconstruction of Ado-Odo-Abeokuta Expressway was part of his administration’s efforts to address the infrastructural deficit in the state, pointed out that it would be the most expensive road his administration had reconstructed and being the second busiest road in the country, would ensure seamless evacuation of goods and services from the axis through the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to other parts of the country.
The state’s helmsman noted that the commissioning of Ilaro-Iwoye-Owode Road, which had been in a deplorable condition since 1991, was part of the celebration to mark the five years of his administration, noting that the road would open up Yewaland, the state and the country for more economic opportunities.
He informed that the present government had constructed between eight to nine roads in Ogun West Senatorial District, while providing affordable houses in Ilaro, in fulfilment of his promise to develop the state, just as there were efforts towards making the axis the food basket and cotton headquarters of the country through a strategic agricultural programme.
Governor Abiodun hinted that construction work had commenced on the Sagamu-Papalanto Road, while that of Papalanto to Ilaro was on course, assuring the people of completing any abandoned projects that have direct impacts on their lives.
Former governor of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, in his goodwill message, said the axis had in the past been the food basket that fed the state and Lagos, appreciating the governor for not embarking on elitist, but people-oriented projects, including the transformation of Abeokuta and other towns in the state through urban renewal programmes for more economic prosperity.
On his part, member of the National Assembly, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, said the road was in a state of disrepair and claimed many lives through accidents, kidnapping and robbery, adding that the newly commissioned road would revive the socio-economic life and commended the governor for saving the people from their harrowing experiences.
Also speaking, Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle noted that the road was abandoned by former state and federal administrations, despite its importance. He gave kudos to Governor Abiodun and members of the National Assembly for working together to change the narrative which would foster economic growth and enhanced commercial activities in the area as it would serve as a milestone for the execution of other people-oriented projects in the senatorial district.
Earlier, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said that the road would usher in socio-economic development and individual prosperity, attract investors and generate employment opportunities.
