In his bid to further prevent crime rates, tackle unemployment and ensure security of lives and properties in Ogun State, the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in conjunction with Federal Government of Nigeria has established vocational Centres at Iperu and Ilisan Remo Axis of the State.
Speaking in Sagamu during Ogun Peace Summit, tagged; “Partnering For Safer And Resilience Communities In Ogun State, Nigeria”, organised by Remo Growth and Development Forum (RGDF) in Collaboration with Peace Initiative Network (PIN), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary and Secondary Education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo noted that the only way to ensure safer and peaceful society was to adequately engage the youths.
Mrs. Soyombo appreciated the community leaders and security team for their tireless efforts in keeping the communities safe, saying the programme was to ensure and promote safety and peaceful co-existence among the citizens of the State, especially the youths.
The Special Adviser who also doubles as the Coordinator of Education and Youths Empowerement, RGDF, reminded that provision of security is a collective responsibility and fundamental right that people deserves, adding that it is the foundation upon which lives, businesses, and futures thrives.
“We must work together to prevent crime and address its root causes, support vulnerable populations and provide resources for those in need, foster a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and respect, invest in technology and infrastructure that enhances safety and encourage community participation and reporting” Soyombo said.
In his address, the Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Security, AIG Olusola Subar (rtd), stressed the need to support and encourage community policing, explaining that it is a catalyst for community development, promote social cohesion, maintaining social bonds and improve accountability.
Also speaking, the Vice President II of RGDF, Colonel Dele Oyefuga (rtd) and Project Coordinator of PIN, Dr. Michael Sodipo submitted that the initiative focuses on four key areas, such as, enlightenment campaign, school sports, youth and women empowerement and training and provision of start up kits for youths and women.
Appreciating the Special Adviser for her efforts in transforming the lives of youths, the Aminisan of Oko, Oba Gabriel Odunayo and Alaperu of Iperu, Oba Adewale Osiberu stated that a safer and more resilient community that benefits all is possible, if people can be committed to the cause, enjoining all join hands with government to build a community where people can live, work, and thrive without fear.
