Both Public and Private Junior Secondary Schools in Ogun State have commenced the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE, as supervisors, school administrators, teachers and students were commended for their good conducts at commencement of the examination.
Speaking during the monitoring of the examination organised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko noted that 75,664 candidates registered in public schools with 87,236 in private schools making the total numbers to 162,900 with materials adequately supplied.
Mrs. Oloko explained that the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun has subsidised the cost paid by the private schools across the State as part of the support for parents and learners to cushion the effects of the economic challenges.
The Permanent Secretary applauded schools visited for their compliance with the guidelines for cholera outbreak preventions, saying no case of the pandemic have been recorded so far in any school of the State.
“So far the conduct is satisfactorily, the materials are adequate, the learners are going about the conduct peacefully and the conduct is highly impressive”, Oloko said.
Applauding the government for the Optical Memory Recorder OMR sheets that comes with the name of each candidate introduced into the examination, the Principals of Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, Mr. Solomon Osunsanya, Abusi Edumare Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, Mr. Ayankole Otunaya, Itamerin Comprehensive High School, Our, Mrs. Comfort Solaja, Methodist Comprehensive High School, Ago-Iwoye, Mrs. Idowu Olubanke and Methodist Comprehensive High School, Mission, Mr. Alaba Adedeji, saying it would help for proper identification and tackle malpractices.
Also speaking on behalf of other supervisors, Mr. Felix Obateru said there was great improvement in the supply of examination materials this year, appreciating the Ministry for the introduction of technology innovation into the education system of the State.
