The Ogun State Government is taking robust steps towards improving maternal health through the organization of a scientific conference for traditional birth attendants.
The conference, organized by the Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, brought together traditional birth attendants from all 20 local government areas of the state.
The importance of training and re-training traditional birth attendants cannot be overstated, as they play a crucial role in maternal healthcare.
Recognizing their significant contribution, the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, declared the conference open, highlighting the need for synergy between traditional medical practitioners and the state’s healthcare providers.
During the conference, guest speakers emphasized the vital role of traditional birth attendants in national development and urged them to carry out their duties diligently. Dr. Kafayat Lawal, the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, explained that the purpose of the conference was to educate traditional birth attendants and provide a platform for practice improvement.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that the conference had equipped them with valuable knowledge and clarifications.
In recognition of their dedication, awards were presented to deserving individuals, groups, and associations.
