Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has assured residents and visitors of the state of their safety and security. This assurance came during an operational exercise that led to the discovery and exhumation of two kidnapped victims in the Ijebu North Local Government Area.
During the operation, CP Alamutu and his team discovered the shallow grave of 71-year-old Adekunle Ifelaja in Agbodo Forest, Ijebu Igbo. Ifelaja had been kidnapped and murdered by his assailants. Similarly, the remains of 37-year-old Oluwafemi Samson Ogunyemi were exhumed in the Japara community, also in Ijebu Igbo. The perpetrators, Monday Igwe and Bartholomew Chukwuma were involved in both heinous acts.
CP Abiodun Alamutu provided further details on the case, highlighting the investigative efforts that led to the discovery of the bodies.
Though grieving, the families of the deceased expressed their gratitude to the police for their efforts, finding some solace in the fact that their loved ones could now receive a proper burial.
Sir Albert Oyenuga made a poignant statement, revealing that both suspects were once farm workers for the late Adekunle Ifelaja but betrayed him for a sum of ₦150,000, leading to his untimely death.
The executive chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Bolaji Odusanya, offered his sympathies to the victims’ families and urged them to find solace in God.
CP Abiodun Alamutu reiterated his commitment to ensuring Ogun State remains inhospitable for criminals and assured that other members of the gang would be apprehended soon.
The suspects, Monday Igwe (42) and Bartholomew Chukwuma (40), both hail from Ebonyi State.
