**Court of Appeal Dismisses Abba Kyari’s Appeal in Drug Deal Case

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal by suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, who sought to have charges against him for an alleged unlawful drug deal quashed.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, July 18, a three-member panel of the appellate court found Kyari’s appeal, marked CA/ABJ/CR/516/2023, to be without merit.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko, delivering the lead judgment, stated that there was no basis to overturn the findings and conclusions reached by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in his ruling on March 22, 2023. Justices Peter Obiora and Okon Abang concurred with the lead judgment.

Kyari’s appeal challenged Justice Nwite’s decision to uphold the charges against him and reject his application, which argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to try him and four other police officers as they had not yet been subjected to the Nigeria Police Force’s internal disciplinary procedures.
