On Thursday, July 18, the Senate progressed a bill aimed at creating a federal agency to oversee local government elections. The proposed legislation, known as the “Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB. 531),” successfully passed its first reading.
The bill is sponsored by Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
