Abeokuta, August 13, 2024 — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday paraded two suspects at its Ogun State headquarters for alleged vandalism and impersonation.
Commandant David Idowu Ojelabi of the Ogun State Command identified the suspects as Oluwatobiloba Salami, 30, and Idris Zakari, 20. Salami was arrested with fake Nigerian Army and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) branded jackets, which he allegedly used to impersonate officials from these agencies. Zakari was apprehended for his alleged involvement in the vandalism of railway clips at the Kajola Rail Station in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
“Both suspects were arrested in the month of August 2024,” Ojelabi stated during the press briefing. “Recovered items include railway clips and counterfeit military and EFCC jackets.”
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their respective crimes. The NSCDC emphasized its commitment to eradicating such criminal activities and warned that anyone caught vandalizing government property or impersonating security personnel would face the full extent of the law.
Commandant Ojelabi further highlighted the importance of public support in combating insecurity. “We are dedicated to synergizing with other security agencies to fight crime in the country,” he said. “Public cooperation is essential to achieving our objectives.”
The NSCDC called on all criminal elements to desist from their activities, especially those targeting critical infrastructure like railways. The corps reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining peace and security across the state and the nation at large.
