Abeokuta, Ogun State-In a significant move to enhance healthcare access for its workforce, the Ogun State Government has officially launched the formal sector of the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme (OGSHIA). The scheme, which offers a 50% subsidy on insurance fees for all civil servants, was inaugurated by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was represented at the event by his deputy, Engineer Noimot Salako Oyedele.
The launch forms part of the activities commemorating the Civil Service Week, with the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, leading other top government officials in being the first to enroll in the scheme. Civil servants also benefited from free medical check-ups and drugs provided during the event.
Speaking at the launch, Engineer Salako Oyedele emphasized the significant contributions of the state workforce to the progress and development witnessed over the past five years. She highlighted that the government remains committed to implementing policies and programs that will bring substantial benefits to civil servants.
In his welcome address, the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, lauded the “Know Your Health” program, describing it as a deliberate initiative aimed at ensuring that workers have opportunities to be aware of their health status. He commended the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun for its unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of the state’s workforce, as evidenced by the launch of the formal sector of OGSHIA.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, and the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, expressed their satisfaction with the enrollment of civil servants. They assured attendees of the provision of quality healthcare services under the scheme.
The launch also featured goodwill messages from representatives of the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Agency, the Forum of Chief Executive Officers of Health Insurance Agencies in the South West, and labor leaders in Ogun State.
As part of the Civil Service Week celebrations, civil servants were encouraged to take advantage of the health insurance scheme and the government-subsidized fees. The event concluded with an inspection of the ongoing free medical check-ups by the Head of Service and other top government functionaries.
