Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has lauded the leadership of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), for its pivotal role in advancing the unity, welfare and consistently standing against all forms of oppression, as well as injustice in the South-West, while also fostering a deep sense of pride and identity among the Yoruba people.
Governor Dapo Abiodun gave this commendation in Lagos during the grand finale of the 30th anniversary of the Oodua People’s Congress, stressing the need to be guided by the principles of unity, justice and equality that had long defined the vigilante organisation for the past three decades.
Represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, Governor emphasised the need for all stakeholders in the South-West of the country to work together to address challenges facing the region, such as insecurity, socio-economic development to project its rich cultural diversity and unity, thereby placing the people on an enviable pedestal among other tribes in the country.
“It is absolutely necessary for us to adopt a coordinated and consultative approach to the challenges we face as descendants of Oduduwa. This is why we must redouble our efforts to foster an environment where every citizen can thrive and contribute to our collective success”, he said.
The governor pledged his administration’s support for initiatives that would foster peace, progress and prosperity of the state and beyond.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of OPC and the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, highlighted the goals and content of the OPC to include, advocating the restructuring of Nigeria, protection of lives and property, promotion of the Yoruba culture and identity, defending the interest of the Yoruba race, rendering humanitarian and youth programmes, as well as playing major roles in cultural tourism.
He reiterated the organisation’s commitment in promoting and protecting the interest of the Yorubas against internal and external aggression, especially in the South-Western part of the country.
