Towards ensuring the safety of its workers, Ogun State government has organised a two-day in-house training for Electrical Engineers, to boost their productivity.
Declaring the programme open with the theme, “Rural Electrification Ethics and Tips of Electrical Safety”, organised by the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services (BEES), at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Energy Matters, Mr. Olufemi Omisanjo, said the exercise was to ensure better service delivery, while inculcating the need to observe the necessary measures in the discharge of their duties.
Mr. Omisanjo added that it was part of the present administration’s move to improve participants’ expertise in the lighting installation, to boost the ‘Light Up’ initiative of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government.
“This capacity training, is one way to build up a strong workforce, making sure we are up to date in what we are doing, increase work ethics, streamline professionals and help put the right person(s) in the right position, in order for them to deliver efficiently on their jobs and work in sync with government’s plans as regards its energy sector”, he said.
In their separate goodwill messages, Directors in the agency stated that the development and success of the Bureau was their priority, in order to increase efficiency towards greater productivity.
They appreciated the state government for organising the training, promising that Engineers in different departments would work as a team,
Speaking on the theme of the training, the resource person, Chairman, Chartered Institute of Power Engineers, Engr. Adebola Abogunrin, said rural electrification is the provision of power supply for household, commercial and industrial activities in the rural areas of a country.
He explained that the training would enhance the job of the Engineers and expand their horizon on what is expected of them before, during and after planning for rural Electrification, enjoining them to be more proactive in their various activities and be safety conscious while carrying out their activities.
He advised the management of the Bureau to put capable hands on the job for better service delivery.
Responding, a participant, Engr. Kazeem Adesina from the Department of Electrical Extension Services, appreciated government for making their safety paramount by training them on modern trends in a control system software, as well as how to work as a team, appealing that more of such programmes should be organised, to make them better Engineers.
