OGUN SPEAKER ENJOINS RESIDENTS TO LEVERAGE ON-GOING FREE HEALTH SCREENING

Residents of Ogun State, especially adults above the age of 40 years, have been enjoined to take advantage of the ongoing free health screening tagged,  “Project 10 Million: Know Your Number Control Your Number”, an initiative of Nigeria Health Commissioners’ Forum, under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, with the support of the state government, to ensure that the people take proactive measures to live a healthy life by taking cognisance of their Blood Pressure reading and sugar level.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, gave the admonition, while leading his co-lawmakers to undergo the screening, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that it was important for all adults from 40 years to regularly go for medical examination, in order to protect themselves from health challenges associated with heart related diseases and diabetes.

Commending the state government through the Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Governor’s Forum for the initiative, the Speaker urged residents of the state to take advantage of the programme to effectively manage their health status.

Speaking, Deputy Director of Nursing Services in the State Hospitals Management Board, Mrs. Oluremi Mosuro, said that the Project was to ensure that everyone know and control their number, which included the readings of the heart, to control blood pressure level and a blood sugar test, with a view to controlling the glucose level in the blood.

Mrs. Mosuro noted that high blood pressure and diabetes were life-threatening diseases, cautioning that taking proactive measures through regularly screening, treatment and follow-up would guarantee a healthy life.

She underscored the importance of regular exercise, such as brisk walking, going to the gym or engaging in simple exercises to remain healthy, informing that the various teams of the outreach had visited markets and motor-parks to conduct screening for all segments of the populace.

Commending Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for the initiative, the Deputy Director disclosed that the state government had sponsored 50 percent of health insurance scheme for all public servants in the state to enjoy quality healthcare services in all public health facilities in the state.
