Staff training and capacity building have been identified as essential tools for efficiency and productivity in service delivery.
Commissioner in the Ministry of local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat disclosed this at an in-house training, organised for staffers of the Ministry, at the Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The event, with the theme, “Sharing of learning Experience”, was designed to train participants on proper presentation skills, as well as reproduce lessons learnt during their training course at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in Badagry. The avenue allowed the management to get feedback from all participants on other trainings.
In his address, Hon. Hamzat charged participants to make the best of the series of trainings the Ministry had facilitated for the staff, by applying them to their work, saying the government would not relent in investing in its workers.
” It is worthy of mention that resources were committed to these trainings. It is therefore key that such gesture is reciprocated in the quality of duties discharged by all beneficiaries”, he said.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi in his remarks, said the exercise was an attestation to the fact that some members of staff were indeed trained, noting that the ‘Sharing of learning Experience’ initiative could be sustained as a platform for learning and self-development.
The exercise which had representatives from three departments; Department of Local Government Inspectorate and Monitoring, Department of Local Government Affairs, and Department of Finance and Accounts, dwelled on topics ranging from accounting, leadership, personnel management, fraud detection and management, administrative communication, as well as speech and report writing.
Two of the presenters, Mrs. Onamade Olufunke and Mr. Ogunbanwo David in their separate remarks, expressed gratitude to the management, saying the training was an eye opener and a challenge to work smarter.
