The Ogun State Commissioner for Sport Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka has said that “encouraging sporting activities in schools across the State is a strategy towards discovering and catching the young, new talents for Local, National and International representation”.
Hon. Isiaka revealed this, during the 2025 Inter-House Sports event as parts of the lined-up programme to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Remo Divisional High School (RDHS), Sagamu, saying the State government was working towards producing new sets of great athletes like Falilat Ogunkoya and Tobi Amusan.
The Commissioner noted that, the State hosting the National Sports Festival was another move for all round development of sports at all levels, right from the grassroots, adding that, the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration would continue to invest in modern sporting facilities to create avenue for improvement and expertise.
“Our aim was not just to discover new talents, but to utilise them effectively,” Isiaka said.
He appreciated the Old Students for supporting the government towards actualising its education repositioning agenda, noting that, their generosity was in tandem with ‘’adopt a school mantra’’ of the present administration in the State.
In her address, an Old Student of the School, who is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education and the Chairperson 60th Anniversary Committee of the School, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, submitted that the essence of the event was to instill spirit of sportsmanship into the learners and thereby making them good ambassadors in the future.
Dr. Soyombo lauded the efforts of teachers in shaping the lives of young ones to become the pride of the Nation, appreciating the Old Students of RDHS, for being outstanding in giving back to their Alma Mater.
In his welcome address, the President General of RDHS, Mr. Biodun Awosanya said that, the passion of the Association is to produce responsible leaders of tomorrow leveraging on government efforts, saying one of the ways to achieve it was by encouraging sporting activities.
Also, a member of Board of Trustee, Mr. Mofopefoluwa Joseph, acknowledged God for the activities of the Old Students so far, promising to continually come up with students support oriented programmes to achieve the goal of nurturing sane minds for future development.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of trophies to honour the Pink House, the winner of the Inter-House Sports.
