Leaders in various communities across the State have been urged to lead with vision, integrity and compassion, as well as remain committed to the values of citizenship and leadership.
Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Balogun, gave the admonition at the closing ceremony of the Batch B, Basic Citizenship and Leadership Training Course for Community Leaders at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu, saying they were the driving force behind the development and progress of the society.
“As community leaders, you are the driving force behind the development and progress of our society. I urge you to continue to lead with vision, integrity, and compassion, and to remain committed to the values of citizenship and leadership that we have explored during this training,” he said
Hon. Balogun, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the participants, saying the training was an opportunity for them to come together, share experiences and learn from one another, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired would empower them to positively impact their communities.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to the overall development of residents and communities in the State through continuous man power development, emphasising that the training would scale up the skills of residents at the grassroots and bring governance closer to the people.
Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Cooperatives, Arc. Oluranti Oresile said the training was put together to empower participants who were leaders with skills and knowledge for effective administration as part of measures to improve on community development of the State, urging them to be more committed to self-help developmental projects and programmes in their various communities.
Earlier, Chairman State Community Development Council, Akogun Taiwo Lucien, commended the State Governor for prioritising the needs and welfare of residents and improving the livelihood of communities, adding that the training would further deepen community participation in governance.
Participants at the event, Mr. Samuel Ajayi Crowther and Mrs. Anuma Taiwo on behalf of others, said the training had exposed them to necessary skills needed in handling dispute, adapt to emerging situations in their locales, promising to make use of the training to better their communities.
