Ogun State Government is set to carry out a comprehensive audit of Harvest Feed and Processing Ltd, along Ajura-Ogere-Iperu, to determine the extent of pollution done to Ajura Community River.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya during the inspection of the factory, saying it was the government’s responsibility to protect the environment and ensure the well-being of the people.
Dr. Oresanya said Harvest Feed and Processing Ltd was sealed after receiving a petition from Ajura Youth Development Association, alleging the factory of discharging waste water into their community river. He appealed to the community youths to cooperate with the government to provide a lasting solution to the problem.
“We are here to inspect the factory because we are responsible to protect the environment, we will also conduct a comprehensive audit of the factory to know the extent of the pollution and provide a solution,” he said.
Speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection, Hon. Farouk Akintunde said the Agency would ensure that the factory adhered strictly to the regulations of the State government.
In his reaction, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Harvest Feed and Processing Ltd, Alhaji Goke Adeyemi, said they were making moves to rectify the problem, saying that no single drop of waste water would go into the river again.
In his remark, His Royal Majesty, the Olu of Ajura land, Oba Adebukola Taiwo, commended the State government for coming to their aid in the community.
The Youth Leader, Ajura Development Associations, Mr. Michael Bamgboye expressed appreciation to the State government for prompt response to their petition, affirming their confidence in the ability of the State government to find a lasting solution to the problem.
