Ogun State Government has given a month ultimatum to Banks that are yet to comply with the provisions of the law and regulations to obtain and regularise their permits, before government commences enforcement activities.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Olatunji Odunlami, gave the notice at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Ministry in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Tpl. Odunlami, stated that banks must hold all necessary permits, including planning permits for buildings and permits for towers and antennas to be in compliance with the regulations of the State.
Noting that all necessary notices had been served earlier, emphasising that the meeting was a final call for partnership with banking institutions as stakeholders towards the physical development of the State. He appreciated the banks that have complied as at the time of the meeting.
“Whether leased or owned, property used by banks are expected to hold planning permits in compliance with the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Regulations 2022. Banks should also obtain permits for their antennas and towers, in compliance with the Ogun State Outdoor Physical Furniture Regulation 2022,” the Commissioner emphasised.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Sakirudeen Salaam implored the banks to do the needful to avoid corporate embarrassment that could negatively impact public perception about their establishments.
Responding on behalf of the representative of the banks, Shamsudeen Oyeneye of Jaiz Bank appreciated the Ministry for calling the meeting and providing clarification of the processes for the renewal of permits.
