Members of Truck Owners and Truck Drivers Association in Ogun State have been re-counseled on the relevance of driving with caution and being humanitarian on the road to ensure peace and safety of all road users.
The Acting Commander General and Chief Executive Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Elias Omonayajo, gave the charge during a stakeholder’s meeting with the Articulated Drivers’ Union, at Trace Conference Hall, Ajebo, Abeokuta, urging them to always checkmate drivers to be humane while on the roads.
Commander Omonayajo, advised articulated vehicle drivers to desist from indiscriminate parking on highways, avoid reckless driving, driving against traffic, drinking of alcohol while driving as well as using the size of their vehicles to intimidate other road users.
“As an Agency of Government saddled with the responsibility of saving lives and property on the road, we will not condone insanity and callous acts but will continue to intensify efforts in educating and retraining truck drivers, towards reducing crashes on the 18 major corridor roads, because safety is a collective responsibility,” he said.
The Acting Commander General added that the interactive session was in order so as to caution the articulated vehicle drivers on the importance of obeying traffic laws and regulations, charging them to always check the condition of their vehicles and ensure adequate maintenance to avoid crashes.
Responding, Zonal Chairman, Truck Owners Association, Comrade Shittu Samuel, appreciated TRACE operatives for their commitment at ensuring sanity on all roads in the State, promised to extend road safety and traffic laws for the use of other members.
