160 Secondary School Students and adults in Yewa North Local Government Area (YNLG), have benefitted from a 3 week intensive skill acquisition training programme aimed at reducing unemployment and improving self-reliance in Ogun State.
The training, organised by the Council, featured vocational sessions in various trades, including; Catering and Decoration, Beaded Bag Making, Souvenir Bag Production and Adire/Tie and Dye among others.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chairman of the Council, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, said the initiative was designed to empower students and adults—particularly during the long vacation period so they could contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
Dr. Akinbode emphasised that the programme aligns with the Ogun State government’s broader commitment to youth development.
“Let me assure you that the Prince Dapo Abiodun -led administration remains committed to the development of all and sundry in the State and will spare no cost in building the capacity of our teeming youths,” he said
Appreciating the skills acquisition training, Vice Chairman, Hon. Joseph Ilori, Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Lukumon Akinyemi, Council’s Supervisors for Information, Youths and Social Welfare, Hon. Segun Oladodu and Education Supervisor, Alhaji Fatai Adekunbi, all commended the initiative, saying that it holds the potential to transform the lives of young people in the area. While urging beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity and sustain their newly acquired skills.
Contributing, Acting Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Idowu Odeyemi and Director of General Services and Administration (DGSA), Mrs. Anu Fatade, lauded the programme, describing it as a strategic effort to reduce crime and create employment opportunities.
Also speaking, a trainee at the programme, Madam Florence Akinola, said the training was structured across four key areas of vocational development, adding that knowledge gained would help combat poverty, crime and joblessness in Ogun State.
Some of the beneficiaries including; (Catering and Decoration) Miss Olanrewaju Sanumi, (Beaded Bags) Miss Aina Alice, and (Souvenir Bags) Miss Gloria Adelanwa, expressed gratitude to both the State government and the Council for the opportunity, noting that the training had opened a new chapter in their lives.
