Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been applauded for authorising the long-awaited payment of outstanding entitlements to former political functionaries who served in Ogun State between 2004 and 2007.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries during a forum held at Empire, Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, former Leader of the Legislative House in Ewekoro Local Government and coordinator of the forum, Hon. Afolabi Olaniran, said the move, which covers severance benefits and other approved allowances, has been described by beneficiaries and political observers as a bold and commendable act that demonstrated the Governor’s commitment to justice, good governance, and respect for public service.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Governor for attending to their situation which had lingered for nearly two decades, revealing that many of the affected former officials had waited in vain for the fulfillment of these entitlements, with some having passed away before seeing the matter resolved, saying, with this payments, hundreds of families across the State have been relieved.
“Many of us had lost hope that this payment would never be made. Sadly, some of our colleagues are no longer with us today to witness this moment. We thank His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for this uncommon act of political will and administrative fairness,” Olaniran said.
In their remarks, former Chairmen from Yewa South, Evang. Olusoji Eweje, and Hon. Jimoh Akinlade, applauded the initiative, describing it as both humane and courageous.
“For nearly 20 years, we pursued this matter through successive administrations. Many of our colleagues died without receiving what was rightfully theirs. This gesture is not just about financial compensation—it is about dignity, closure, and justice,” they said.
Other former political leaders, including the former Vice Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Segun Alawode and former Leader of the Legislative House in Ado-Odo/Otta Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Kowiu, also expressed appreciation as they noted that the payments have brought significant relief to many affected families.
