The leader of the 9th Legislative Council, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu, has said the two sponsored bills to establish a unit that will regulate trading activities around roadways and pedestrian paths, prohibition of trading in designated areas will in no doubt boost the socio- economic activities in the area.
The legislative boss, made this statement during a public hearing with stakeholders to deliberate on two proposed bills aimed at improving environmental sanitation and regulating trading activities within its jurisdiction, at the legislative Chamber in Ota.
Hon. Gbadamosi, commended the stakeholders for their turnout and noted that the proposed bills would address critical issues affecting orderliness within the Local Government, saying the hearing was successful as it drew various groups, including the Police, Transport unions, Council of Baales, royal fathers, market leaders and other concerned stakeholders.
He explained that the first bill, sponsored by the Executive Arm, established an Environmental Marshal Unit to monitor and enforce environmental laws and regulations, adding that the second bill, sponsored by Hon. Seidu John, would regulate trading activities.
Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu assured stakeholders that their feedback would initiate a refinement of the proposed bills, aimed at promoting a cleaner environment, enhance public health and improve the overall quality of life for Ado-Odo/Ota residents.
Speaking at the hearing, the Onitetiku of Owode Ota, HRM Oba Abdulwasiu Ogungbayi, called for government intervention in ensuring that major markets meet standards and provide necessary infrastructure before enforcing the law.
