The Commissioner for Health Dr. Tomi Coker has underscored the importance of collaborating with the Local Government sector for effective healthcare delivery at the grassroot level.
Dr. Tomi Coker made this known at the opening ceremony of a 5- day workshop on the Annual Operational Plan Development (AOPD) process for fiscal year 2026, at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.
Dr. Coker, emphasised during her presentation, the crucial role Local Government Chairmen played in the success of health initiatives within their localities, appreciating their continued collaboration and support which had become vital in strengthening the system during the planning and implementation process across the State.
“As we look ahead, we count on your commitment, dedication and leadership to ensure that all health programmes under your respective local governments are well supported and effectively executed,” She said.
She added that the AOPD workshop was not merely an annual ritual, but was a strategic imperative, that aligned directly with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative(NHSRII),which mandated all States, the FCT, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to harmonize their annual planning and budgeting processes with the provisions of the Health sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB), saying such alignment is essentially for standardization, efficiency, targeted funding, and the attainment of the collective health goals as a nation.
In their respective goodwill messages, representatives from Catholic Relief Services (CRS)-Global Fund Malaria, Dr. Nickson Hyeladandu and its counterpart from Management Sciences for Health GF-M Grant Global Fund Malaria, Linda Okafor, reaffirmed their commitments to supporting Ogun State’s health sector by providing resources and expertise to tackle pressing health challenges.
ALGON Chairman, Ogun State, who is also the Chairman, Odeda Local Government Hon. Dr. Folashade Adeyemo, explained that Primary Healthcare Centers are under one roof, one plan and one finance, aimed to strengthen the PHCs, saying there is need for adequate funding and infrastructure while all stakeholders must come on board, to help improve healthcare delivery at the grassroot level.
