The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has emphasised on commitment to duty and accountability as the hallmark of transparency required among career minded Civil Servants to promote real image of the State.
The Head of Service, made this known in his keynote address while declaring open a 2-day requisite course for career progression for Executive Officers (Accounts) cadre in the State Civil/Public Service with the theme: ‘Enhancing Manpower Development for Effective Service Delivery’ organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of Head of Service, at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Mr. Onasanya said the training was essential for all Executive Officers (Accounts) Cadre to serve as a leverage for their career progression and enhance effective service delivery, calling for their continuously deep in strategic planning and accountability.
He said the middle level financial management officers occupy one of the most important spaces in the machinery of government and their work affects the day to day functioning of the State, hence the need for adequate manpower development.
“As executive officers, you hold in your hands one of the most sensitive responsibilities in government which is the management and proper recording of public funds, the confidence of citizens in government is tied to how well we account for every kobo entrusted to us. This means that you, as officers of this cadre are part of the frontline of accountability, your work is not hidden as it has real impact on the image of the State,” he said.
He urged the participants to embrace the training sincerely, so as to have impact and enhance their jobs in running government affairs smoothly, saying that their commitment and transparency would build public confidence for effective public resources management towards the socio – economic wellbeing of the citizens.
Mr. Onasanya reiterated that the training was a part of the clear policy direction of the present administration in the State to prioritise capacity building and training for all cadres of officers in the Civil Service for effective job delivery across the State.
He assured the participants that, government would continue to create more opportunities for training of this nature, as long as positive feedback emanates from officers through accountability, prudence, accurate reporting, integrity and excellence performance in their job execution and performance.
Earlier in her welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Bolaji Lydia Fajounbo, emphasised that the training was a platform to prepare the participants for higher responsibilities as they grow in their cadre and career in the civil service.
She encouraged them to take full advantage of the course by listening attentively to all the carefully packaged modules professionally designed for them, appreciated, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for releasing funds for the training and the Head of Service, Mr. Kẹhinde Onasanya, for facilitating it always.
In their separate goodwill messages, Permanent Secretaries, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale and the representative of the Accountant General, Mr. Olalekan Taiwo, enjoined the participants to shun all forms of distractions that could denied them of the opportunities to take out the best from the all-important training as it has to do with their career progression.
The Executive officers were urged to be diligent in learning so as to carry out their duties professionally and render effective service delivery to the citizens of the State.
