Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has said he will remain active in politics for the rest of his life.
Shekarau made the declaration during an interactive session with journalists on Wednesday as part of activities to mark his 70th birthday.
“I will remain within the political arena for life to continue to ensure credible leadership in the country. So, the question of leaving politics does not even arise,” he said.
The former governor said he would continue to contribute his quota to the development of Kano State and Nigeria.

Speaking on whether he had regrets, Shekarau said he had none, noting that regret comes only when one fails to appreciate God’s blessings.
“I don’t have any regret in my life because regret comes if one doesn’t appreciate what God has given you. By Allah’s grace, I am 70 years today, and achieving 70 is a very remarkable milestone. If one doesn’t appreciate what God has given him, when will one appreciate God?”
Shekarau, a former Minister of Education, thanked those who had supported him through his life journey and sought forgiveness from anyone he may have offended.
“As humans, one must have offended someone and others must have offended me. To err is human. I ask all those who feel I have offended them to forgive me. I have also forgiven all those who offended me, and I want to register my forgiveness as I begin a new slate.”
On the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Shekarau said more needed to be done, especially in the areas of security and the economy.
“I appreciate some of the efforts of President Tinubu’s administration, but I believe there is still much to be done, particularly in two key areas, security and the economy.
The situation where people are being killed and displaced is unacceptable.
“Whatever economic policy you pursue, it must ensure that people have access to food. When people are hungry, nothing else matters, not education, not politics. But if people can eat and live peacefully, the nation will prosper.”
He urged the Federal Government to prioritise the protection of lives and property and to make living conditions more affordable for citizens.
