Audit staffers in Ogun State have been described as natural change agents in various agencies of Government as they have cross departmental visibility to access data and provide insight for better governance.
Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye made this known at a 2-day in-house training organised for staffers of the State Audit in Abeokuta.
Mr. Oyeneye said auditors have access to financial and operational data which could enhance compelling cases for change, advising them to express professional opinion which could trigger investigation, legislative hearing and disciplinary actions.
He advised officers to be transparent in their dealings, focus on areas with highest impact of service delivery as well as public value and assist Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve their system through training and provision of resources.
Also speaking, Auditor General for State, Mr. Lateef Balogun, said Auditors in the Civil Service are watchdogs of government finances and operations, noting that they promote good governance by encouraging efficient use of resources and adherence to regulations.
He explained that it is their duties to evaluate Internal Control by assessing system to prevent fraud, report findings, highlighting issues, recommending improvement and promoting accountability, advising staffers to lead with a positive mindset through integrity, adaptability and excellence as well as pay attention to their mental health in order to remain productive.
Responding, one of the participants, Mr. Fajobi Imoleayo, appreciated the organisers for the training while promising to use lesson gained for maximum output.
