Ogun Govt, World Bank Empower 55,000 Women with Over ₦5 Billion in Six Years – Gov. Abiodun

In a significant update on development partnerships and economic initiatives, Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, has announced that his administration, in collaboration with the World Bank Group, has invested over five billion naira in women-focused empowerment and livelihood programmes across Ogun State over the past six years.The Governor highlighted key interventions including the Nigeria for Women Project and the state’s homegrown Oko’Owo Dapo scheme. These programmes have strengthened financial inclusion, leadership capacity, and economic opportunities for women, directly empowering approximately 55,000 women statewide and enhancing household resilience.Governor Abiodun also spotlighted additional World Bank-supported projects delivering tangible results for residents. The OGCARES initiative has supported households and food systems in recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, while OGSTEP continues to drive advancements in skills development, agricultural productivity, and land administration reforms.The Governor noted accelerated issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and ongoing upgrades to approximately 209 kilometres of rural roads under the RAAMP programme, aimed at improving farm-to-market access and boosting overall agricultural productivity.In the power sector, the state is advancing major reforms with the forthcoming commissioning of the Ogun State Electricity Distribution Company. Supported by the establishment of the Ogun State Electricity Board, ongoing Independent Power Projects, and plans for mini-grids, these efforts are designed to improve electricity supply, stimulate industrial growth, and accelerate the state’s broader economic transformation agenda.Governor Abiodun emphasized the administration’s commitment under the theme #BuildingOurFutureTogether, positioning Ogun State as a leading hub for sustainable development and inclusive growth.This is Ogun State Television reporting live from Abeokuta.
